This colloquium is the sixth offered by the two organizations. The main
objective of the colloquium is to update university teachers of
intellectual property in developing countries and countries with
economies in transition on the activities and instruments of the WIPO
and the WTO and to provide a forum for an exchange of information and
ideas between them and the two secretariats on these matters. The
emphasis would be on recent developments and policy issues under debate
in the two organizations. The colloquium will also be an opportunity to
exchange views and experiences on teaching methodologies.
This
colloquium is aimed at enhancing the capacity of universities in
developing countries and in countries with economies in transition to
develop national expertise in intellectual property and provide policy
advice to governments on matters dealt with by the WIPO and WTO.
The working
language will be English. Twenty (20) places are available for
applicants from developing countries and countries with economies in
transition. The costs related to their participation will be borne by
the organizers. An additional five places will be available for
applicants from developed countries, at their own expense.

Applicants must fulfil the following requirements:

Work as a university teacher of intellectual property in a developing
country or in a country with an economy in transition, (with the
exception of developed country applicants) with at least five years'
teaching experience; an ongoing role in policy advice with respect to WIPO/WTO negotiations is desirable.

Be in possession of an advanced degree in intellectual property law or
in international law/economics/management with a specialization in
intellectual property;

Have an excellent knowledge of English;

Indicate a topic related to the areas covered by the programme on
which the applicant would be ready to make a short presentation. A
one-page summary of the topic should accompany the Application Form.

The final selection will be made by the organizers, taking into
consideration the need for regional and gender balance. Selected

Note to applicants
WIPO and the WTO acknowledge with
appreciation the large response to their invitation for participation in
the colloquium to be held in Geneva from 22 June to 3 July 2009.
Successful candidates will be notified directly.
